Profile

I am a Computer Game Design graduate who has overcome the difficulties of dyslexia to achieve a first-class degree in Computer Game Design at the University of Northumbria. I recently completed a Master’s degree in Games Development at Abertay University. I have an extensive knowledge of the gaming industry and have worked with external clients on various projects. I am keen to pursue a career in this sector, particularly in design.

 

Key Skills

I have experience with Unity and Unreal Engine 4 and have basic coding, modelling and rigging knowledge. I have experience in world building, conceptualisation, mechanics and level design. I have acquired project management skills along with my extensive general knowledge of the gaming industry.

Abertay University, Dundee: September 2017 – August 2018

Completed MProf in Games Development which has included several projects such as Plaid and Torchlighter. Worked in the role of designer. Optional modules taken in Cognitive and Developmental Psychology.

Northumbria University, Newcastle: 2012 – 2016

Computer Game Design and Production

Graduated with a first-class degree in Computer Game Design and Production. Final year included the production of two prototype games.

 

Projects

Torchlighter: September 2017 – December 2017

I worked as a designer in a multidisciplinary team over a four-month period. The project was set up by BAFTA to use a brief from the YGDA to design a game. During this project I worked on developing the narrative structure of the game, menu design, level design and overarching mechanics. I was also part of the pitching process.

 

Plaid: January 2018 – May 2018

This was a project commissioned by the Hutton Research Institute to create a VR experience for the Royal Highland Show. My role included research for visuals and map design, map creation and level population. This project was shown to the public at the Royal Highland Show in June 2018.

 

Androids in a Lonely World: May 2018 to August 2018

Multiple briefs were pitched to a client who then chose which game the team would create. My role included level design, mechanics and narrative design.

 

Work Experience

DeltaDNA, Edinburgh: May 2017 – August 2017

Assistant design consultant

This was a paid internship. Involved product research and reviews along with general assistant work. Important experience for building my professional persona and understanding the industry from an inside perspective.

 

Charity Game Jam, Newcastle: February 2013

Project manager within student team

This was a 72-hour Game Jam for the RSPCA. Part of a five-person team. Involved in early mechanics of the game and then managing the project. Produced a game that worked.

 

Personal

I enjoy practising Kendo and rowing, Whisky tasting and Table-Top Role-Playing Games. I also enjoy travelling and visiting new places.
